A New Language

I have to admit...the first 15 minutes of my photography class left me thoroughly confused. It was like a new language, and I was frantically scribbling down notes while trying to listen. My multi-tasking skills are not quite up to par these days...having a 2.5 year old boy run circles around you, both figuratively and literally, will do that to you. But I managed to keep up. Before long, all these foreign terms were starting to make sense and come together. I was beginning to understand how each adjustment I made to my camera changed the outcome of my picture and how to achieve the shot I'm looking for depending on my environment. Much to my chagrin, I had been using my camera mostly in Auto Mode, which is a shame because it is capable of doing SO MUCH MORE... I just didn't know how.

Since O was at school yesterday, I decided to practice on Grover, playing around with the shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance:

Once I've mastered photographing puppets, I may try to move on to human subjects :) Anyone care to volunteer to be my model??

Blogging Convention

Picture this...9 moms from the Issaquah Moms Group... gathered around a table in Grimaldi's Coffee Shop on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, with our laptops in front of us...talking about blogging techniques. Can you say Nerd Alert???

Believe it or not, this was actually very fun. We learned lots of tips and tricks to pimp out our blogs and shared great links to blogging websites. I experimented with my background (but ultimately chose to stay with my gray and yellow design...it's just so sweet and non-obtrusive!), added a picture behind my title, changed the color of my header, and finally learned how to add a space between my navigation buttons and the body of my blog...something that was annoying me for a long time! Thanks Monica!!

There is still so much I want to do...but for now, learning HTML code is pretty low on my priority list. Right now, I have to get ready for my very first photography class with my awesome friend Aileen. She owns a studio called Baby Dream Photography and just launched Live, Love, Dream Weddings. She was recently voted "Best Portrait Photographer in Western Washington" and has generously offered to take a few of us under her wing and teach us how to use our cameras. I am just a little excited!!!!
